Business Services

When incorporating a business, a small business owner will come in contact with a registered agent. This person is required to conduct the process, or transact the business in another state - a process called foreign qualification. They are in charge of legal and tax documents, including the service of process (otherwise known as the notice of litigation), important state mail such as reports and statements and tax documents that are sent by the state's department of taxation, according to SCORE.

Because a business is not just one individual, the purpose of a registered agent is to provide the state with an official legal address within the jurisdiction that they are incorporated. They act as an available person to contact during business hours to facilitate legal services in the event of a lawsuit or any other legal action.

It is ill-advised to be your own registered agent, according to the source. Instead, be sure to invest in a third-party source, as this gives you the freedom to leave the office and operate under a layer of privacy.
This article is brought to you by Vcorp Services – offering registered agent services to businesses nationwide. Providing a physical address to accept service of process on behalf of your corporation, Vcorp’s registered agents can handle all of your company’s statutory representation needs.
